Youth group to launch

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s youth and family support (YFS) service has announced the launch of a new voluntary disability youth club.

Dynamix is set to replace the Driffield Inclusion Saturday Club (DISC) and will be launched this Saturday (14 September) at Driffield Youth Centre based at Driffield School and Sixth Form at 9am.

The club’s transition to a voluntary youth group status has been made possible by a donation from the Sandy Dewhirst Charitable Trust.

Tim Dewhirst, chairman of the trust, said: “After seeing that the DISC could potentially close we saw the opportunity to work with East Riding’s Youth and Family Support Service to help secure the provision for the future. We are delighted that our donation can provide a solid foundation from which the Dynamix Club can grow and flourish”

Kevin Allen, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s youth and family support service manager, said: “After eight years of managing DISC unfortunately due to budget pressures we could no longer continue to operate DISC in its present form. We would like to thank the new members of the Dynamix management group for stepping forward to become a voluntary youth group and we will continue to offer our support to enable the Dynamix club to go on from strength to strength”

Nick Watts, chairman of Dynamix commented “We’re immensely grateful to Tim Dewhirst and the Sandy Dewhirst Charitable Trust for their generous donation and to the youth and family support service for helping in the transition to a voluntary, not for profit group. The young people are thrilled that Dynamix is starting in September and we’re all looking forward to an exciting future.”

Parents and young people can find out more at the launch from 9am - 12noon.
